The Panama Canal and PortMiami have renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), reaffirming a shared commitment to strengthening connectivity, promoting international trade, and continuing to support the development of the maritime and logistics sectors.
The agreement was renewed by Panama Canal Administrator Ricaurte Vásquez Morales and Eric Olafson, PortMiami’s Director of Global Trade, extending the partnership for an additional five years under an original agreement that has been in place since 2003.
According to the Panama Canal Authority, this alliance has played an important role in consolidating a strategic relationship between one of the world’s leading maritime routes and one of the most significant ports in the United States. The partnership has helped facilitate hemispheric trade and strengthen global supply chains.
The Canal, as a key axis of global maritime trade, and PortMiami, recognized as Florida’s main gateway for containerized cargo and a major logistics hub, are once again reaffirming their role as facilitators of international commerce and contributors to regional economic growth.
The renewed memorandum also includes joint marketing initiatives, information exchange, market analysis, and training activities, further reinforcing a long-term relationship expected to continue generating opportunities for the broader maritime industry.
