The Panama Canal and the Panamanian Soccer Federation (FPF) have launched a new alliance that reinforces the Canal’s official support for Panama’s national soccer teams, highlighting a relationship rooted in national pride, identity, and shared values. The announcement was made during a special event that underscored the symbolic importance of both institutions in representing Panama at home and abroad.
According to the Panama Canal Authority, the partnership reflects the Canal’s long-standing commitment to initiatives that embody discipline, collective effort, and excellence. These same principles, the ACP noted, also define the mission of Panama’s national teams and strengthen the connection between sport and national identity.
The event brought together members of the Panama Canal Authority Board of Directors, Canal Administrator Ricaurte Vásquez, Deputy Administrator Ilya Espino de Marotta, Acting FPF President Fernando Arce, representatives of the federation, players from the men’s and women’s national teams, youth athletes, and well-known figures from Panamanian soccer.
During his remarks, Vásquez emphasized that the Canal has long stood as a symbol of sovereignty, unity, and progress, and said the alliance reaffirms the institution’s support for Panamanian talent and the values that unite the country. He added that, just as the Canal connects oceans, it also connects Panama to a spirit of excellence and national pride.
The agreement will support initiatives across all national team categories under the FPF structure, not only benefiting the senior squads but also helping strengthen youth development programs and expand their social and sporting impact in communities throughout the country. Fernando Arce said the alliance represents more than a formal agreement, describing it as the meeting point of two strong institutions united by a shared purpose: to continue raising Panama’s profile beyond its borders.
The ceremony also highlighted soccer’s unifying role in Panamanian society, especially after the national team’s historic qualification for the 2026 World Cup, which sparked celebrations across the country. In that context, the Canal said the partnership reflects a broader vision of national connection — one that goes beyond linking oceans and also connects the country with its collective aspirations and dreams.
