The Panamanian-flagged tanker Nestos (IMO 9417464) played a crucial role in a successful search and rescue operation coordinated by the Greek Coast Guard to assist a vessel in distress.

According to the Designated Person Ashore (DPA), the Nestos promptly responded to the call from Greek authorities, demonstrating exceptional preparedness and a steadfast commitment to maritime safety.

Thanks to the swift and skillful actions of its crew, 73 individuals were safely rescued. Once onboard, the survivors received comprehensive care, including medical attention, food, water, and shelter, ensuring their recovery and well-being after the incident.

Panama continues to uphold its dedication to maritime safety by adhering to Regulation 33, Chapter V of the SOLAS Convention. This heroic rescue highlights the Panamanian Registry’s unwavering commitment to protecting human life at sea, backed by stringent safety protocols and a highly trained workforce equipped to handle emergencies.

The Panama Maritime Authority (PMA) praised the crew of the Nestos for their bravery and compassion during the operation on November 29, 2024. The PMA reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining international and national maritime standards, prioritizing the protection of human life and the conservation of the marine environment.
